Outcomes

What you'll neeed.

In order to successfully enrol in this course, you must have a level of proficiency in written English, allowing you to engage in the course materials and content and ensuring you can undertake the variety of assessments.

To complete the course material you’ll need access to a computer AND smart device. Plus you’ll also need the following PC software/hardware specifications:

  • Microsoft Office 2010 or equivalent (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint)
  • Strong internet access Printer
  • Microsoft Windows XP or MAC equivalent Scanner/Camera (you may be required to scan and email a document to your trainer/upload to the online system. If you do not have a scanner, you are able to take a photo of the document.)

You must be at least 16 years old on the date of application. If you are under the age of 18 you will also need an application signed by your parent or guardian.

  • Year 10 and a minimum of one year of vocational experience OR
  • Completion of a government recognised Certificate II course or higher OR
  • Relevant vocational experience

Job roles

The following occupations relate to this qualification.

Accounts Supervisors complete Business Activity Statements and prepare other office taxes; produce basic management and job costing reports; prepare budgets; supervise the operation of computer based systems; classify, record and report accounting information; and maintain inventory records.

Administration Officers carry out general administrative tasks. This may include producing documents from notes or shorthand, assisting other staff in general duties, handling colleague or client enquiries, maintaining databases, scheduling, and managing records and basic accounts.

Board Secretaries provide administrative support to Boards or similar governing bodies. They take minutes, circulate papers, and liaise between the Board and the Chief Executive Officer. Depending on the company, their duties may also include providing advice to the Board on governing principles and policy, helping to implement the Board's decisions, and ensuring good lines of communication between the Board, employees, managers and members of the public.

Business Administration Officers (Local Government) focus on local government business issues. They may administer contracts, prepare tender documentation and responses to tenders, develop and maintain supplier relationships and prepare accounts and rates notice forms.

Executive Assistants provide direct administrative support to senior managers. They may produce texts from notes, shorthand or audio; create presentations and simple databases; organise schedules; administer projects; and prepare financial reports

Office Administrators carry out administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of an office. They may lead and develop teams of staff, establish business networks, coordinate business resources, report on financial performance and implement customer service strategies.

Office Supervisors oversee the day-to-day running of a local government office. They supervise office staff and activities, and monitor supplies. They may supervise offices dealing with rates, policy, community programs or other areas of local government responsibility.

Personal Assistants carry out liaison, coordination and organisational tasks to support managers and professionals. They deal with operational matters; research and prepare reports, briefing notes, memoranda and correspondence; carry out secretarial duties; maintain appointment diaries and make travel arrangements. They may supervise secretarial and clerical staff.

Project Assistants provide administrative support to project teams and management. They prepare documentation, correspondence and reports; deal with invoices and expense claims; arrange meetings; compile research; and perform secretarial and clerical duties as required.

Senior Clinical Coders translate descriptions of medical diagnoses and procedures into codes, which record health care data. They work in hospitals, community health centres or private practice as senior members of staff in administrative teams.

Strata Managing Agents manage the financial and administrative affairs of multi-unit properties, and oversee day-to-day upkeep. They maintain accounts and records, coordinate maintenance, and handle disputes.

Waste Management Administrative Supervisors manage the administrative aspects of waste management plants. They administer all human resource services, oversee budgets and finances, and train and lead work teams.
