Upskilling long term jobseekers at Vinnies

Congratulations to our students from Vinnies Australia in Cairns who have completed their training and achieved a SIR20216 Certificate II in Retail Services.

The students undertook training as part of a new program run by Allara Learning and Vinnies Australia, designed to help local unemployed and disadvantaged jobseekers gain the skills and experience they need to secure ongoing paid employment.

The program is delivered under the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, funded and supported by the Queensland Government.

Training provides participants with a mix of classroom-based, hands-on instruction and work experience, giving them the knowledge and skills to succeed in a variety of retail settings. Along with a range of retail service and customer service skills, students also develop their general employability skills.

Upon successful completion participants gain a nationally recognised qualification.

Of the 23 students who commenced the program, 22 have successfully completed the course and earned their qualification to date.

This is an outstanding outcome for the program, which saw many of the participants overcome personal barriers to complete their training, and long-term unemployed students receive offers of employment.
