Overview

This course is for New South Wales students only.

The course provides the mandatory certification in Responsible service of Alcohol (RSA) required by Liquour and Gaming NSW and is a legislative requirement for all staff involved in the sale, supply, and service of alcohol in the state of New South wales.

The Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course provides liquor service staff with the knowledge and awareness required to responsibly serve alcohol in licensed premises. You will develop their knowledge surrounding compliance with liquor laws, strategies that can be used to ensure that customers drink responsibly and that minors do not have access to alcohol through ID checks and secondary sales/supply, harm minimisation strategies, and dealing with intoxication, including assessing alcohol-affected customers and refusing service.

Who is this course for?

If you are working (or planning to work) in a venue that serves alcohol, you need RSA certification to work in any of the following roles:

  • Licensee or manager
  • Secretary of a registered club
  • Staff who sell, supply, or serve alcohol on the licensed premises
  • Staff who perform crowd control or bouncer activities
  • RSA marshals, if they are required in the venue by law or licence condition.

Course plan

Responsible service of alcohol (RSA) covers the skills and knowledge required to responsibly sell, serve or supply alcohol.

Responsible practices must be undertaken wherever alcohol is sold, served or supplied, including where alcohol samples are served during on-site product tastings. This unit therefore applies to any workplace where alcohol is sold, served or supplied, including all types of hospitality venues, packaged liquor outlets and wineries, breweries and distilleries.
