Overview
The Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course provides liquor service staff with the knowledge and awareness required to responsibly serve alcohol in licensed premises.
In this course you will develop their knowledge surrounding compliance with liquor laws, strategies that can be used to ensure that customers drink responsibly and that minors do not have access to alcohol through ID checks and secondary sales/supply, harm minimisation strategies, and dealing with intoxication, including assessing alcohol-affected customers and refusing service.

Who is this course for?
If you are working (or planning to work) in a venue that serves alcohol, you need RSA certification to work in any of the following roles:
- Licensee or manager
- Secretary of a registered club
- Staff who sell, supply, or serve alcohol on the licensed premises
- Staff who perform crowd control or bouncer activities
- RSA marshals, if they are required in the venue by law or licence condition.
Course plan
This course covers the nationally recognised unit of competency, SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol.
This unit addresses the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to responsibly sell, serve or supply alcohol.
Responsible practices must be undertaken wherever alcohol is sold, served or supplied, including where alcohol samples are served during on-site product tastings. This unit therefore applies to any workplace where alcohol is sold, served or supplied, including all types of hospitality venues, packaged liquor outlets and wineries, breweries and distilleries.

Learning outcomes
This course aims to provide participants with the fundamental skills needed to responsibly sell, serve or supply alcohol. Upon successful completion you will be able to:
- Interpret and apply the relevant legal requirements for the responsible sale and service of alcohol.
- Explain and follow key organisational policies and procedures for responsible alcohol service.
- Identify at least three early indicators of intoxication and implement suitable intervention strategies.
- Outline and execute the procedure for refusing service to intoxicated customers
- Use appropriate communication and conflict-resolution skills to ask customers to leave the premises,

Upon successful completion of the training and assessment, you will receive a statement of attainment. This statement of attainment holds national recognition and is valued by industry and educational institutions, both in Australia and globally.

The course is a 100% online course. This means you will complete the development of knowledge and skills through E-Learning.
You will be required to complete an interactive E-Learning module and a series of case studies within the Allara Learning Student Portal.
Click ‘Enrol now’ at the top of the course page to open the enrolment application form. You will need an active email account that you have access to.
Enter your first name, last name and email address and ‘click create +’ to begin the enrolment.
You will need to provide a range of personal details and must supply a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI).
If you do not have a USI, create one here before proceeding with enrolment.
At the end of the form, you will be required to upload a supporting document to verify your identity. Acceptable forms of evidence include any one of the following:
- Drivers Licence
- Proof of age card
- Birth certificate
- Passport
Before submitting your form, you will need to make payment for the course fees via credit card, then review and accept (agree) to the terms and conditions of enrolment by digitally signing the form.
You will receive an email from axcelerate@allaralearning.com.au. This email asks you to create your student portal. Click the ‘Create your Student Portal Account’ link in the body of the email and follow the prompts to create your student user account.
Once you have created your account, you can login to the ‘Student Portal’ and begin your course.
Click on the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Learning plan from your student portal dashboard to begin.

This course has a fee of $30 payable at the time of enrolment via credit card. You must enter the credit card payment details to finalise your enrolment application.

No, employment is not required. This course provides the necessary certification required to gain employment within the hospitality industry in a range of roles where alcohol is served.
To access learning and assessment materials, you will need to have access to a computer or tablet with internet access.

Yes, this course is accredited under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment for SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol.
Upon successful completion of this course, your nationally recognised statement of attainment will be emailed directly to you. It can take up to 48 hours after assessments are marked for certification to be issued and sent. Please make sure you provide an accurate email address to ensure you receive the certification.

This course provides the required certification you will need to operate as a café attendant, bar tender, waiter, or food service professional within a broad variety of food and beverage service establishments where alcohol is served and/or supplied.
This course is a single unit of competency short course. Recognition of prior learning is not applicable to this short course.
A refund of course fees paid for a short course may apply if a request for refund is made in writing prior to the course commencement date where the course commencement date is the earlier of the date you commence any of the learning content or the start date of the course.
Fees are non-refundable if you have already accessed learning content to commence the course.
